Alba opens its spring season by reaffirming its top tier place in the Langhe’s capital of food culture and wine. In this Langhe city, which sits minutes away from great wine-producing cities like Barolo, Barbaresco, and La Morra, a series of extraordinary culinary and wine events, guided tours, and festivals will be held until the weather warms into summer.

Vinum, the most important wine event of the springtime in Piemonte, is definitely one to mark on your calendar. Several exhibitions will be carried on for several months, including one of the artist Pinot Gallizzio, in honor of the 50th anniversary of his passing in 1964; and the Ancient Egypt “Past in a Glass” exhibit, a fascinating historical trip in time through an oenological lens of perspective. As for guided tours, don’t miss out on the Alba Underground and more; if you’re looking for adventure, participate in the treasure hunt through the hills of Barolo; and for a scrumptious meal, the first days of July will be dedicated to Star Chefs  in the Piazza.

Let’s take a closer look at the events of the season:

    1. Vinum
    2. Earth Market
    3. The Past in a Glass: Wine of Ancient Egypt exhibition
    4. Guided city tours
    5. Treasure Hunt in the Hills of Barolo
    6. Food&Wine Design Week
    7. Birra d'Ecc
    8. Stars in the Piazza

VINUM

The heart of the festival lies within Palazza Mostre e Congressi, which will have tastings every day from 11-8. But this year, for its 38th edition, Vinum will also expand to the rest of the city with several events and festivals, including Roero Arneis tasting in Piazza Garibaldi; Asti Spumante and Moscato d’Asti in Piazza Savone; and spumante metodo classic Alta Langa in several locations, available for purchase at a special price. And then there’s Street Food, cheese, hazelnuts and desserts made from it, and more. THE PAST IN A GLASS: WINE OF ANCIENT EGYPT

Il vino degli Antichi Egizi

Wine of Ancient Egypt: the past in a glass (Il vino nell’Antico Egitto. Il passato nel bicchiere) is an innovative archaeological display that tells the story of Ancient Egypt from antiquity to the Roman epoch through wine. The display, curated by Egyptologist Sabina Malgora, shows the strong connection that formed between ancient Egyptian culture from 2686 BC to the Italian peninsula, using wine as a lens for perspective. The theme is expanded upon in various aspects, including the cultivation of vines, the harvest, amphorae, vinification, aging, and even commercialization. The theme is also developed along a religious path, delving deeper into the significant symbols and its divinity in being connected by funerary arrangements and ceremony, as seen in the tomb of Nakht TT52 from the Theban necropolis Sheikh Abd el-Qurna.
