Pre-order and read an excerpt from the newest book on Piemonte’s fine wine and cuisine by Tom Hyland: The Wines and Foods of Piemonte.

Since Wine Pass launched in 2013, more than a few wine lovers who are passionate about Piemonte have come forward to connect with us. They share their stories, emphasize the greatness of Nebbiolo or affability of Barbera, talk at length about the incredible food, and ask, “Have you met...? Have you tasted..?”

Piemonte creates another level of wine lover in its disciples; we want to spread the word through our own experiences and – more importantly – through the testimonies of others.

Tom Hyland is one of these great wine lovers of Piemonte. Extensively knowledgeable and equally passionate about the land, producers, and wines of the region, he has faithfully traveled here every year, multiple times, for the past 14 years.

“I want to communicate Piemonte, and to get this region into the limelight...I’m always thrilled to come here because you see people just doing their best,” he told us during an interview (see the rest of his interview here: Tom Hyland: The Push for Excellence is Found in Piemonte). The limited view of Italian wines in overseas markets inspired him to write his first book, Beyond Barolo and Brunello: Italy's Most Distinctive Wines. Now, his soon-to-be-published second book will focus entirely on Piemonte: The Wines and Foods of Piemonte.

Tom’s in-depth knowledge of Piemonte is apparent (we’ve read the initial draft), with a focus on the wines, grapes, vintages, food, and interviews with some of the top winemakers and chefs in the area, such as Roberto Voerzio, Pietro Ratti, Enrico Crippa (Piazza Duomo), and Massimo Corso (LALIBERA). His perspective spans the northern hills of Alto Piemonte and Ossola Valley through UNESCO territory and its noble Nebbiolos to Gavi in southern Piemonte. While Barolo and Barbaresco are given their due, Tom also looks at the other varieties that make this wine country great. The hardcover book will feature 28 pages of full-color photos that Tom has taken himself during his trips to Piemonte.
