The Barolo Boys Offsides: Soccer and Wine Tastings in Monforte d'Alba

Barolo Boys Offsides returns to Monforte, jerseys washed and surprises in hand. The event will be four days – May 21-24 – dedicated to wine and soccer. The Barolo Boys soccer team from Monforte d’Alba is sponsored by all 39 producers of the town of their hometown.

The highlight of the event is May 23 with a wine tasting of four prestigious wines. The Moda Ristorante Venue and the charming, medieval Case della Saracca in the town's historical center will host wine tastings of all Monforte Barolo producers, six important Champagnes, nine excellent Austrian Burgenland and eight Derthona wines. Cost of wine tasting: €40.

On the preceding evening of Friday, May 22, the Barolo Boys team will dine with all the producers, who will attend as guests of honor, on the magnificent terrace of Moda Ristorante Venue in the heart of historical Monforte.  Traditional dishes from the Langhe will be accompanied with selected bottles of historical vintages of attendant producers’ wines. Many other initiatives will animate the small, medieval town of Monforte d’Alba during the four days of this event. The evening of Thursday, May 21 will be dedicated to soccer, presided over by La Stampa journalist Gigi Garanzini; renowned wine critic Alessandro Masnaghetti will interview a patriarch of wine in the afternoon of Friday, May 22; and a four-part soccer tournament closes the event on Sunday, May 24.
