Open Wineries is the most important wine tourism event in Italy. Starting in 1993, every year on the last Sunday in May, wineries part of the Tourism Movement of Wine will open their doors to the public in a chance to give wine lovers direct contact with producers and the wines they love. The event involves over one million participants each year who want to discover the culture and wine directly in the place of production.
"A Friendship" is the chosen theme for this year's 21st edition of the event, which includes over one thousand wineries ready to celebrate, from the North to the South of Italy, with wine tastings and initiatives that follow this theme of friendship together with wine. Other than tastings and the possibility of purchasing wine at the winery, it will also be possible to enter the wineries to discover the mysteries of vinification and aging.
Open Wineries in Piedmont
Piedmont, among its numerous initiatives, will propose an open door event in Castagnole Monferrato in the agricultural museums of the underground wineries; walks through the vineyards; visits to ancient habitations excavated directly in rock; and dinner with wine in the wineries based on the chick-pea farinata and homemade desserts from the province of Alessandria.
