On Sunday, June 9, the Regional Enoteca of Barolo unveiled the latest vintage of the king of wines, with guest star Master of Wine Jancis Robinson. Enjoy the slideshow of photographs taken by Wine Pass from the event.

This royal wine was celebrated as it should have been. On Sunday at the Regional Enoteca of Barolo, a large public greeted the 2009 vintage and was able to taste over 100 labels from just as many different producers of Barolo during the day, this being the first time the wine was released to the public. Guest star and wine writer Jancis Robinson signed a special bottle of the Enoteca; the Barolo labels were painted by artist Joe Tilson for the occasion.

A selection of DOP Piedmontese cheeses accompanied the wine tasting. The 2009 vintage, according to Armando Cordero (an historical Piedmontese figure in oenology, who received the title "Maestro of the Dynastic Order of Barolo" on Sunday) is expressed as radiant and full of promise, characterized by a bouquet of complex aromatic nuances of sweet spices and minerals, forest underbrush, and essence of noble wood. The Barolo 2009 is hot in the mouth, with primary sensations that proclaim a majestic austerity."

For those who were unable to attend the event over the weekend, don't despair: from Monday 10 to Saturday 15 of June, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm, the tasting continues at the Enoteca with all 100-plus wines of Barolo 2009.
