Get ready for one of summer's best events, the Festa di Barolo. The festival, during the second weekend in September, celebrates one of the land's most precious treasures: Barolo, the "king of wines" and one of the Langhe's highest oenogastronomic achievements.
This event is somewhat the mother of all the different festivals that are held each year in honor of Barolo. Over the years, it has undergone several changes, one of them being the date that it's held, changed from August in occasion of Saint Luigi to September in occasion of the grape harvest.
Barolo has become ever more famous over the years, and its festival has grown with it. The 2013 edition of the Festa di Barolo lasts for two days full of live music, coverbands of Italian rock, many wine tastings, the chance to eat great, local food, guided winery visits, and much more.
On Sunday, September 8 beginning at 11 am, streets and piazzas will be filled with market stalls. Beginning at midday, you can purchase a ticket for tasting a full Piedmontese meal, Barolo included. The complete list of participants in the Itinerary of Taste will be published a few days before the event on baroldibarolo.com.
In the afternoon, the historical philharmonic music band founded in 1891, "Il Risveglio di Dogliani," will perform. Cristina Corino (Ass. Bella Idea) and Renzo 'd Caraj will amuse children with games and little performances. During the day, it will be possible to visit the Marchionali Wineries of the Falletti Castle, the seat of both the Regional Enoteca of Barolo and the Museum of Wine (WiMu), with innovative and original representations of the world of wine, as well as the Corkscrew Museum. Wineries of producers in the territory will also be open for visits.
