14th century castles, a trip back in time, and wine tastings are part of the initiative by Turismo in Langa during an entire day dedicated to the history and territory of royal residences of the Langhe and Roero.
Stories, legends, and tradition are narrated by those who lived them in centuries past in the castles and royal residences of the Langhe and Roero. The event is called "Narrar castelli e vini," ("Stories of Castles and Wines") and on Sunday, October 27 it takes visitors to Serralunga d'Alba, the Wine Bank of Pollenzo, and the Castle of Monticello d'Alba for an original program of unique visits. The past inhabitants of the castles and manors, dressed in period costume, will guide participants through the old rooms they once lived in, telling their tales and legends of days long gone by.
A highlight of these visits is at the Castle of Serralunga d'Alba, a tall and austere castle that shadows the circle of red-roofed houses around it, rising from the highest point of its hill and affording a breathtaking view of the Barolo land all the way to the distant Alpine mountains. It is, in fact, considered by many to be on of the best-conserved examples of noble 14th century castles in all of Piemonte. But the special part of the visit in the Castle of Serralunga d'Alba on Sunday is the narrator, who is none other than Pietrino Falletti himself, the feudal owner of the heritage of the old family of Piemonte (which, in part, includes the famous Falletti Castle of Barolo). Sig. Falletti will guide the public through the ancient rooms that are today managed by the Barolo & Castles Foundation.
From 10 am to 6 pm, Pietrino Falletti will attend to visitors in his elegant style, ready to talk about what his own family has given to the famous territory, from agricultural and wine cultivation to Falletti properties. Visitors may want to chat and ask questions when they have a truly golden opportunity to do so during these visits.
And what better way to conclude these castle visits if not with a glass of this land's most precious wine? Local producers will present their wines at the final wine tastings.
This year's “Narrar castelli e vini” is the 13th edition. It is organized by Turismo in Langa with the Provincia di Cuneo and its section for the valorization of castles of the Langhe and Roero; and with the Barolo & Castles Foundation with the contribution of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Cuneo.
The Castles open for Visits
