Wine Pass will be the official Media Partner of the Piemonte Region at Vinitaly 2014. We aim to promote Piemonte through communicating its territory, a land rich in viticultural heritage and alive with many excellent products.

This northwestern region of Italy has beautiful landscapes, a myriad of fascinating histories, and a wine heritage that has at one and the same time traversed the globe and called wine lovers to visit the land of its origins. This year, we aim to communicate all the wine world of Piemonte has to offer at Vinitaly.

Think of Piemonte as a brand. The word itself represents a world of ideas, history, values, and high quality. It is immediately recognizable to many wine lovers as a land that uniquely expresses terroir and territory exported worldwide. But until you visit this region, its deeper values of hard work, discovery, and the passion that goes into producing its great wines remain hidden to many. This year, Piemonte comes to Verona with the goal of communicating itself and its excellent products with a united front. This goes beyond – although certainly includes – Barolo and Barbaresco to reach all the wine zones and all its authentic producers who passionately cultivate the land to bring fine wine lovers some of Italy’s highest quality wines.

There will be many events, presentations, conferences, and tastings. Several will be dedicated to discovering particular wines and vines of Piemonte: for example, the Nebbiolo wines of Alto Piemonte, the wines of the Canavese, Freisa and the Turin Hills (Colline Torinesi), Dolcetto from the Alta Langa, the newborn Nizza DOCG, and the wines of the Hills of Novara.

With its selection of presentations of these emerging wines and vines, the entirety of Piemonte’s pavilion (#10) will be working together to valorize the region as a brand and a wine country ripe for discovery. The land is perfectly adapted for oenological exploration, from winery tastings to visiting the towns and cities that have grown up together and around their wines. In this regard, Piemonte is just as fascinating a place to visit as other wine regions in Italy. Its landscape has breathtaking scenery that varies spectacularly from sweeping vineyard-covered hills to snow-covered Alpine peaks; wineries are largely family-owned and operated, making them welcoming and friendly; and there is an incredible variety of wines and native grape types cultivated in these hills.

“Brand” and “territory” will be the words of the day (or four days) at the Piemonte pavilion this year at Vinitaly. Keep your eye out, too, for producers explaining their innovative cellar techniques and other interesting topics – like the conference on wild yeasts of the territory that the WildWine project is studying in making wine with native yeasts while using less biogenics (responsible for wine migraines).

In the Piemonte pavilion, Wine Pass will be positioned as the bridge between Piemontese wine makers and wine lovers and travelers who can’t wait to start exploring everything about this land, from the dark cellars to the hills blanketed in vineyards: the wine tourists.

Wine tourism is a growing trend that producers and institutions are watching with interest. Visits to wineries to see how the wine is made, where it comes from, and how it tastes in its cellars of origin is relatively new for Piemonte; it is being offered to tourists as a 360 degree experience that excites the tastebuds, sates the thirst for discovery, and connects tourists with producers and locals. On the same note, visiting the winery and, much more often than not, buying several or many bottles of wine shows huge appreciation to the producers. In turn, producers get the chance to present their wine without any middleman, and with the concrete possibility to transform the tourist into a loyal customer. This is especially important in the wine world, where competition is fierce and international.

Wine Pass plans to bring a fresh, social side to Vinitaly, with daily updates, insights, and interviews that will communicate Piemonte and its extraordinary land.
